SUNY Oneonta’s College and Career Counseling Advanced Skills microcredential provides employed city counselors and teachers with the following skills for skill-building instruction and learning:

Required Courses

  • CNED 5240 Using Workforce & Economic Data to Improve Outcomes in High School Counseling (Graduate, 3 credits)
  • CNED 5245 Strategies for Facilitating Career Navigation (Graduate, 3 credits)

Competencies

Designed in response to needs identified by the NYC Office of Pathways (within NYC Education Dept), this microcredential provides employed counselors and teachers with skill-building instruction and learning. The first course in the pair comprising the microcredential concentrates on enhancing understanding of employment data; the second course builds additional strategies for using that data effectively in career and college advisement of high-school students.

Currently open to NYC school counselors who have completed Foundations of College Counseling I.

Non-degree student

To be eligible to take courses as a non-degree student, you must:

  • have graduated high school or passed the GED/TASC; or
  • have a cumulative average of a 3.0 from the last college attended.

If you have been dismissed from SUNY Oneonta, you are not eligible to take courses as a non-degree student.

 

Application Steps

All students applying for admission to the program are required to:

  1. Submit the online Microcredential Application
  2. Submit official transcript(s) from all post-secondary institutions attended
  3. Submit a copy of your provisional, permanent, initial, or professional certificate(s) for classroom teaching service or counseling, or a screenshot of your TEACH account showing certification(s), including your full name.

 

Application Deadlines

  • fall term - second Wednesday of August
  • spring term - second Wednesday of December

 

Minimum GPA

You must maintain a 3.0 grade point average to be eligible to continue enrollment.
