French and Francophone Studies Major

Overview

SUNY Oneonta’s French and Francophone Studies program offers courses in language, culture, civilization and literature, a range of overseas programs and a committed and engaging faculty. You’ll develop analytical and writing skills, and oral proficiency through critical study of cinema, literature, culture and history.

Education Program

If you’re interested in becoming a middle or high school French teacher, you’ll complete a dual major in French (B.A.) and Adolescence Education: French (B.S.).

Hands-On Learning

Students are encouraged to study abroad, and more than 800 programs are available through the SUNY network. Special opportunities include faculty-led field courses abroad, where students have the chance to practice language skills and immerse themselves in another culture. You can also meet friends who share your interests through the Trait d’Union French club, which organizes activities, events and trips throughout the year.
